About

Let's connect:

Hi, I'm Carla — a Brazilian-American travel journalist reporting live from Rio de Janeiro. When I graduated journalism school in 2015, I dove headfirst into old-school newsroom life — covering tough beats like international banking and real estate in Miami. And yes, this means I've felt the thrill of writing on a strict 5 p.m. print deadline and seeing my story printed on the front page the next morning.
But that didn't last very long, as I quickly pivoted to digital journalism after moving to New York, where I spent a couple of years working for Eater, Vox Media's food & dining vertical. It was a pretty fun job — obsessively tracking restaurant openings and closings, interviewing celebrity chefs and deciding who deserved to get press coverage in one of wildest restaurant scenes on the planet.
I went freelance during the pandemic, when I moved to Rio de Janeiro and began reporting on Brazil from a local perspective. Since then, I have written about the ethics of digital nomadism for The Washington Post, spotlighted hidden gems in Brazil for Condé Nast Traveler, and continue to helm Brazil coverage for Tripadvisor and Beach.com — from Carnival guides to beaches most travelers have never heard of.
On the content marketing side, I have helped brands land on Google’s front page through well-researched, narrative-driven SEO content that goes far beyond keyword stuffing. My journalism background gives me an edge: I know how to dig deep, ask the right questions and craft stories that connect with my readers.
Fun fact: In 2024, I spent a month living in an ashram studying traditional yoga philosophy. I'm now curious to explore how yoga and mindfulness practices can shape how we move through the world, especially when it comes to making travel more sustainable.
